PILLOWCASE DRESSES FOR MADAGASCAR

Most of us take having comfortable and attractive clothes for granted; this is not the case for many people in the world, especially children.  As many of you know, St. Gregory’s has a relationship with the Diocese of Toliara in Madagascar where many children are in need.  To help our friends there — particularly young girls — St. Gregory’s is undertaking a sewing project that will make a wonderful impact.

As a special Lenten project, our Youth Group is currently sponsoring a pillowcase drive.  Pat Meech, a member of St. Gregory’s and an active ECW participant — not to mention an expert seamstress! — will turn the collected pillowcases into lovely dresses for young girls in need in Madagascar.  When the delegation from the Diocese of Toliara arrives in early March for the Miaraka: A Time to Dance event (hosted at St. Gregory’s; check What’s Happening for more info!), we hope to have a number of dresses to give to them to take back home.

How can you help?  Simply bring one or more standard pillowcases to the church office (new or excellent condition, pretty patterns, easy care fabric please!).  You can also join us for a “Snip and Sew Session” on Sunday, February 26 after the 10:00 AM service in the Conference Room.  Enjoy a light lunch sponsored by the ECW and help with the dressmaking process, guided by Pat Meech. No sewing experience is necessary — just willing hearts and hands!
