A RETURN TO...INNOVATION!

This past week I was struck by the contagious joy as our volunteer team comprised of congregational and community members prepared to serve our Thanksgiving community meal. People were literally lined up around the block to participate in the feast! Our newly renovated (and nearly complete!) courtyard was the staging ground for this glorious day. It reminded me of the words of the psalmist: "taste and see that the Lord is good!" St. Gregory's was making a difference in transforming the hearts of those serving and those who were being served by Jesus' love!

The following Sunday we began monthly resumption of our Sunday evening worship featuring a service of Evensong that included a celebration of the Eucharist. This incredibly beautiful service was live-streamed and is available below (and on YouTube) for viewing. Here's a quote from one of the graduates of our new members class who attended the service:

"Wow! I am a new member of St. Gregory’s and on Sunday I was thrilled to hear the very beautiful 5 pm Evensong Liturgy at my new parish. I have always loved Evensong but had no idea that I could be as deeply touched and moved as I was. The organ was superbly played by Tim Brumfield, Director of Music Ministry, who led the perfectly blended choir 'voice' in the singing of the Liturgy. I am honored and grateful to have been present at the giving of such a gift of prayer and music. I hope that all will join me in the wonder and beauty of the next Evensong at St. Gregory's!"

What struck me about both events was that familiar rhythms of ministry patterns, much like singing on Sundays and the move to a mask optional policy for the fully vaccinated, that were disrupted by Covid were once again returning. However, it wasn't a return to what previously existed, but rather an innovative re-envisioning of the familiar. The Thanksgiving meal took place in our renovated courtyard. The beauty of the courtyard enhanced the spirit of hospitality. The Evensong incorporated the Eucharist in a seamless and innovative way. The service was live-streamed and more than 100 people have viewed the service virtually so far.

St. Gregory's is making a difference as we return to .... innovation. Thanks be to God!
