ST. GREGORY'S PARTNERS WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA TO ENHANCE YOUNG LIVES THROUGH THE SUMMER READING SKILLS PROGRAMS

St. Gregory’s made a significant impact on the lives of young people in Palm Beach County by hosting the University of South Florida’s Summer Reading Skills Programs, a program in its 54th year. By offering classroom space for these essential educational programs, St. Gregory’s played a pivotal role in fostering a love of reading and enhancing literacy skills among local children.

The Summer Reading Skills Programs, run by the Institute of Reading Development in partnership with USF, offered a variety of reading courses designed to engage students from preschool through high school. There were about 20 students per class. These programs were tailored to meet the developmental needs of each age group, providing targeted instruction to improve reading comprehension, speed, and overall confidence in reading.

St. Gregory’s was chosen as a host location due to its central location, ample classroom facilities, and commitment to community engagement. Throughout July and August, St Gregory’s welcomed students and instructors from the community to utilize its space, creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment.

“St. Gregory’s and USF have provided an invaluable service to our community,” said one parent. “My child’s reading skills have improved dramatically, and I am so thankful for this opportunity. It’s wonderful to see him excited about reading.”

Another parent shared, “The program exceeded our expectations. The instructors were fantastic, and the classroom environment at St. Gregory’s was perfect. My daughter has not only improved her reading skills but also developed a genuine passion for books.”

St. Gregory’s is eager to continue its collaboration with the University of South Florida and looks forward to accommodating the Summer Reading Skills Programs again next summer. The school’s leadership is enthusiastic about building on this year’s success and further enriching the educational experiences of young people in Palm Beach County.

“We are incredibly pleased with the positive feedback we’ve received from instructors and parents and look forward to continuing this partnership with St Gregory’s next summer,” said Philip Chasmar with the Institute of Reading Development.

By opening its doors to the Summer Reading Skills Programs, St. Gregory’s has demonstrated its commitment to making a difference in the lives of young people in Palm Beach County. St Gregory’s involvement in making reading fun highlights the importance of community partnerships in promoting a love of reading while enhancing the literacy skills of young people throughout Palm Beach County.
