OUR MINISTRY IN HAITI

The news out of Haiti is challenging and painful. The gang violence, particularly around the Port-au-Prince area, has impacted every aspect of life and made travel to Haiti unsafe. It has also made it difficult to move goods and services, especially food aid, around the country. My prayers and heart go out to this nation and the people that I love and who are companions in Christ with us at St. Gregory's. However, there is another story emerging. Bondeau, our partner community, has become a place of refuge. This summer over 50 children from the Port-au-Prince area were relocated to Bondeau by their families because it is considered a place of safety. In response, with the leadership of Fr. Phanord and the community leaders of Bondeau, we were able to hold a summer camp for the children and to provide food and other emergency support for them. We have received a special grant to enable them to attend school for the new year that begins in October and to cover their costs. Meanwhile, we continue to support the entire school that has over 450 children, and provides school lunches for all the children. Several recent graduates have begun advanced studies. We have a developing and deepening partnership with Food for the Poor and there are plans to build thirty new homes for community members and to rebuild school buildings that were damaged in the earthquake that struck Haiti two years ago. In the past year, in recognition for the progress and success of our partnership, our companionship with Bondeau has been highlighted at two national church gatherings. There is light and hope emerging from Haiti and it's shining through in Bondeau. We are making a profound difference.

Would you like to help? Would you like to learn more? Join us on Saturday, September 28 for our dinner and fundraising event entitled: Journey with Bondeau.

Blessings in Christ,
