THE RIGHT REV. ANGELA CORTINAS
This past Saturday, The Rt. Rev. Angela Cortiňas was ordained the Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. In the Episcopal Church, a suffragan bishop is the bishop who assists the diocesan bishop. Angela previously served as the Assistant to the Rector at St. Gregory’s during the years 2012-2016. Representing St. Gregory’s at the ordination were Gena Vallee and Rose Vallee. Kim Oulette, a current member of the St. Gregory’s Vestry, assisted with robing Bishop Angela in her new vestments. Included below is a link to the livestream of the service. At ordinations, the faith of the Church sings. It always feels to me like you can actually hear the angels, archangels, and all the company of heaven joining in our praises to God. The presence of the Holy Spirit is palpable at such moments and worship transforms into a thin place where heaven and earth are joined in one communion. During the service, Bishop Angela movingly breaks into tears as the bishop’s crozier is handed to her and she is reminded that she represents Jesus to all of us. I am so grateful to God that part of Bishop Angela’s story will always be her time at St. Gregory’s and I’m also grateful for all those who will be touched by her new ministry. Please join me in rejoicing in this new ministry and praying for her, her daughter Victoria, and the people of the Diocese of West Texas.
In Christ,
Andrew+
