GIVE ME JESUS
“Give me Jesus…” These words echoed throughout our January 26 th service. Sometimes, a solo may not be expressly planned to fit into a service as the soloist may be a guest artist who wishes to sing a particular piece. January 26 th , Kari Nelson, our guest soloist, asked to sing “Give Me Jesus” and I agreed. It didn’t dawn on me until the actual service that this particular song would not only fit the liturgical theme but it would also serve as its own final Collect, summing up the scriptures, the sermon, and the emotions of the entire morning! I love it when the Holy Spirit works in this way at St. Gregory’s, filling our hearts and our souls with meaning, beauty, and purpose of thought. Not only were our hearts deeply touched by Kari’s extraordinarily beautiful singing but we were moved in a way which brought many of us to shed tears of joy as we were filled with great emotion. So often, it is the unplanned and spontaneous moments - the ones we don’t anticipate - which take us by surprise and bless our hearts in unimaginable ways. I like to think this is God working through us, in us, and around us in ways we can’t foresee, leaving us open and vulnerable to the voice of God, the Light of Christ… and Making A Difference in our lives . Kari’s beautiful rendition of “Give Me Jesus” did just that on January 26. I’m still singing it in my heart and I know many of you are too.
