SEEING WITH THE EYE OF THE HEART
Dear Beloved Members,
I returned on Friday from a week away for Continuing Education spent at a Wisdom School with the Rev. Cynthia Bourgeault on the launch of her new book, Eye of the Heart: A Spiritual Journey Into the Imaginal Realm. Forty of us spent 6 days on the ground, holding and sharing real Presence collectively during this pandemic and I cannot tell you how important that felt and was. My kids refer to Wisdom Schools as 'Hogwarts for Mystics' and I have to say they nailed it with that description. It truly is deep time spent out of time in conscious work raising our collective vibrational frequency for the energetic transformation of our planet. It's monastic, holy, and very, very real.
Wisdom Schools have been around since ancient Mesopotamian civilizations and have historically popped up during times of great upheavals, wars, insurrections, and well, plagues. And they have at least two aims: The first is to make available to Christians the breadth and depth of their own Christian heritage while paying attention to the Near Eastern and Western milieus that hold it up. The second aim is to recover the true catholicity (universality) of the Christian tradition by returning to our own wellsprings through acknowledging that the transformation of our entire being cannot happen in the mind alone.
And it was a return to these very wellsprings that I did last week in Valle Crucis, NC (Vale of the Cross), an Episcopal Mission founded in 1837. We even unearthed an old labyrinth! And I find it no mere coincidence that I more formally launched a Wisdom School here at St. Gregory's before I left. This year, I'm focusing on a key tenant of Wisdom: seeing with the eye of the heart. In that effort, I'll be teaching in a number of contexts this fall Bourgeault's Wisdom Jesus: Transforming Heart and Mind - A New Perspective on Christ and His Message. I've chosen to start here because it's the perfect on-ramp for those with some understanding of Inner Christianity and those with none. Please join me.

I look forward to seeing where this journey into the fruits of the Spirit will take us!

Fr. Ben+
