Well, it seems as if Christmas takes forever to get here, then it’s over in a flash!  I had such a great time celebrating Christmas here at St. Gregory’s and  I want to thank everyone who contributed so generously to the Christmas Music Fund this year. Your contributions helped make all the beautiful music heard on Christmas Eve possible!!   Many thanks to our wonderful Choir of St. Gregory’s who provided outstanding music on Christmas Eve and all during Advent.  They all work extremely hard and their dedication to the church is unsurpassed.  I want to especially thank soloists, Paulina Arango, Jonathan Cornell, Catherine Gaines, and Chase Wheeler for their incredibly beautiful solos throughout the Advent season and on Christmas Eve.  We are most fortunate to have these talented individuals who not only share their music with us each week, but do so with a joyful spirit and dedication to the church which makes it a true joy week after week to make music together.  Many thanks to guest choral members Kimberly Soby and Brett Karlin for joining us on Christmas Eve whose voices added much beauty to an already beautiful sound.  My thanks also goes to Mr. Jeffrey Kaye, Artistic Director of the Boca Symphonia, for contracting our incredible brass instrumentalists for the 11 PM service on Christmas Eve.  They were outstanding.
Our Choirs will resume rehearsal next Wednesday, January 11 with the Choristers at 6:30 and the Adult Choir at 7:30.
I hope you’ll join me next Saturday evening, January 14, for our next installment on our Great Music at St. Gregory’s Concert Series, when I’ll present a concert in the Sanctuary.  I’m very proud to announce that I’ll be joined by our vey own Chase Wheeler and Jonathan Cornell whom you heard on Christmas Eve.  Chase will be singing a stunning piece by contemporary composer Jake Heggie entitled “The Light of Coincidences” from his suite “A Question of Light.”  Jonathan will be singing some beautiful Schubert art songs and both he and Chase will join me in a  medley of spirituals including “Give Me Jesus,” “Ride On King Jesus,” and “Let Us Break Bread Together.”  I will be performing on both piano and organ and will include a few pieces by one of my favorite composers, Frederick Chopin.  I’ll also perform some improvisations based on submitted themes which I always have fun doing!  You, the audience, may be asked to participate!
On February 12, we welcome back jazz legend Wycliffe Gordon who will be bring his New Orleans style jazz back to St. Gregory’s for the third year in a row!  How blessed and fortunate we to have this incredible artist in our midst once again!
On March 5, we welcome Mr. Brett Karlin, Artistic Director and Conductor of The  Singing Sons and Girls Choir of South Florida, for a combined performance of Faure’s Requiem, not to be missed!  I’ll be accompanying them on the organ. This is going to be an incredible concert featuring some of the most talented youth in South Florida led by one of the most outstanding conductors in the country!
I wish for everyone a most Happy New Year and a blessed season of Epiphany!
