August 15, 2008

Dear Anthony, I have recently returned from my vacation. Upon my return, I received a copy of the letter that you wrote to me and placed on the windshields of church members on 13 July 2008 regarding the building of the Chabad Temple in our neighborhood.

As I commented at the open house meeting in May, I believe that houses of worship are a blessing a benefit to the neighborhoods in which they are located. They anchor a community spiritually by providing a place of worship, service and positive community outreach. On behalf of our congregation, I warmly welcomed the proposed Chabad Temple into our community and believe that their presence would be an additional blessing to our community. I also noted as a resident of the neighborhood, as well as the Rector of St. Gregory's, I am committed to preserving the essential residential neighborhood character of this part of East Boca Raton. I further noted that many of the questions that neighbors, such as Mrs. Moriarty, were raising dealing with parking, traffic flow and the location of trash receptacles were legitimate neighborhood concerns.

St. Gregory's is committed to remaining a good neighbor to all our neighbors. Our faith calls us to nothing less. Our congregational leadership board is discussing Chabad's request for a parking agreement, but there is no formal agreement at this time.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this further in person.

Peace and blessings to you and your family,

The Very Rev. Andrew J. Sherman
